Basel residency

In 2012 Claire won a mid-career fellowship to go to Basel, Switzerland where she had a three-month residency with the Basel Natural History Museum and the Basel Paper Mill. Claire had access to the thousands of specimens in the Museum and liaised with the Museum’s scientists. Claire also worked one day a week at the Basel Paper Mill where she learned traditional rag papermaking by a master papermaker and experimented with the medium. She then presented a solo exhibition of works entitled ‘Still life’ in a large gallery space at the Museum. The exhibition featured new techniques she had developed at the Paper Mill and was inspired by her research at the Museum.
